Web and software projects often involve a heavy load of multi-tasking. Misunderstandings, confusion around project statuses and delays are common threats towards our industry. Our clients have online access to our project system, and are actively involved in the development and progress of their project - from beginning to end. We have great experiences with this arrangement.
Throughout the years we've tried to collect all aspects of a project in one project tool. Milestones and deadlines are always clearly visible. All tasks associated with different phases of the project are sorted, and the person responsible for echstep is automatically reminded by the system. Images, text and files are all in one place. Time sheets are also completed using the same tool, making it easy to monitor and estimate hours spent. Most of the communication associated with the project is completed within the system, allowing everyone involved to stay updated. As a result, the project history is also well-preserved.
Internally, we've been using this system for years. Since the end of 2008 we started giving access to our clients, and so far we've only had positive experiences. "It's difficult to imagine how we were able to do it before," says Geir Hagen, project manager.
What do the Clients Have Access to?
By logging in online, clients have full access to the entire project plan and schedule, including deadlines. They can also access individual tasks, reply to comments or leave their own. After the beta release, feedback and comments are always imperative, which can now be done directly in the system. The same goes for error notifications or editing requests. The clients can also view, edit or upload files - including text and photos. "This eliminates the confusion that can arise when there are several different versions of the material, such as an article," Hagen concludes.
